Tension or tension headache, is also known as tension-type headache or stress headache, is that the commonest sort of primary headache. The pain can radiate from the lower back of the top , the neck, eyes or other muscle groups within the body typically affecting each side of the top . This Tension-type headaches covers for nearly 90% of all headaches.
Pain medication, like aspirin and ibuprofen, are effective for the treatment of headache . Tricyclic antidepressants appear to be useful for prevention.
As of 2016 tension headaches affect about 1.89 billion people and are more common in women than men (23% to 18% respectively).
Classification
The International Headache Society’s most current arrangement for headache disorders is that the International Classification of Headache Disorders 3rd edition (ICHD-3) as of 2018.
This arrangement separates tension-type headache (TTH) into two main groups: episodic (ETTH) and chronic (CTTH). CTTH is defined as fifteen days or more per month with headache for greater than three months, or one-hundred eighty days or more, with headache per annum .
ETTH is a smaller amount than fifteen days per month with headache or but one-hundred eighty days with headache per annum. Frequent TTH is defined as ten or more episodes of headache over the course of 1 to 14 days per month for greater than three months, or a minimum of twelve days per annum , but but one-hundred eighty days per annum .
Infrequent TTH is defined as ten or more episodes of headache for fewer than at some point per month or but twelve days per annum . Furthermore, all sub-classes of TTH are often classified as having presence or absence of pericranial tenderness, which is tenderness of the muscles of the top . Probable TTH is employed for patients with some characteristics, but not all characteristics of a given sub-type of TTH.
Sign and symptoms
According to the third edition of the International Classification of Headache Disorders, the attacks must meet the subsequent criteria:
A duration of between half-hour and seven days.
At least two of the subsequent four characteristics:
bilateral location
pressing or tightening (non-pulsating) quality
mild or moderate intensity
not aggravated by routine physical activity like walking or climbing stairs
Both of the following:
no nausea or vomiting
no quite one among photophobia(sensitivity to bright light) or phonophobia(sensitivity to loud sounds)
